Transatlantic Import Capacity vs. Export Capacity

According to BlueWater Reporting's Vessel Deployment Reports, allocated weekly vessel capacity operating directly between North Europe and North America (US and Canada) is heavily weighted in favor of European imports and against exports.  The above chart represents the estimated weekly TEUs between North Europe and North America for each quarter over the last year.
As the chart indicates, import and export capacity between the two regions were roughly equivalent in the first quarter of 2012.  As import capacity to the US and Canada from North Europe grew from 57,987 TEUs to 62,087 TEUs in the second quarter of 2012, however, export capacity from North America remained the same.  Trade in both directions between the two regions fell sharply in the Q3 2012, but has steadily rebounded since that time, and has risen to nearly the same level as the peak of Q2 2012.
