Houston is Big on European Connections
By Kim Williams on 14 January 2019
Houston is engaged in more trade with Europe and the Mediterranean than Asia.
According to BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard application, Houston has 36 ocean liner services from which there are 21 weekly container liner services. The chart above was created to compare the service connections to Asia and Europe/Mediterranean regions. There are nine weekly Eur/Med services with a total deployed capacity of 304,561 TEUs among 50 vessels. In contrast, there are three services directly connecting Houston to Asia which have only 66 percent of the European bound capacity. The remaining nine of the 21 weekly container service connect Houston throughout the Gulf of Mexico and the north coastal ports of South America.
