COSCO Shipping buys a 51 percent stake in the port of Piraeus
In the past few decades China has been expanding its worldwide presence. The Chinese have continued the trend with a recent investment in the Mediterranean region. In October, American Shipper reported that COSCO Shipping purchased a 51 percent stake in the Port of Piraeus. A previous chart showed the new development between Qingdao and Piraeus, increased estimated weekly allocated capacity by 74 percent.

The chart above was made utilizing BlueWater reporting's Port to Port Transit Analysis application. Currently, five weekly liner services connect Qingdao to Piraeus. Of the five Asia-Med services in the chart, OCEAN Alliance operates three weekly services.  The fastest transit time between Qingdao and Piraeus is 24 days on the OCEAN Alliance - French Asia Line 2-FAL2/AEU3 service, with COSCO Shipping participating as an OCEAN Alliance member.
