New Zealand ports see growth amid potential cargo shift

New Zealand’s ports have generally continued to experience modest yet steady growth in container volumes over the years, although that has not been the case for the Ports of Auckland, the country’s second busiest container port.
The New Zealand government is considering whether or not to disperse the Ports of Auckland’s freight operations to other nearby ports.
BlueWater Reporting’s latest report, “New Zealand ports see growth amid potential cargo shift,” provides data on the pros and cons of shifting the Ports of Auckland’s freight operations, as well as data showing how the Ports of Auckland has seen a drop in both container volumes and profits over the years.
The report also compares container throughput figures and liner service presence at all of New Zealand’s ports, as well as which ports across the country have the strongest global connectivity.
